Overview

Allopurinol, is a medication which is known as xanthine oxidase inhibitors. Its primary function is to reduce the production of uric acid in the body.

Uric acid is a natural waste product formed during the breakdown of purines, substances found in various foods and the body’s cells.

The excessive buildup of uric acid in the bloodstream can lead to a condition known as hyperuricemia, which is a precursor to conditions like gout and kidney stones.

Allopurinol helps lower uric acid levels, making it a valuable tool in the management of these conditions.
