Overview

Altavera is a combination birth control pill containing two hormones, ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy but may also provide other benefits such as reducing menstrual cramps and acne. Altavera works by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and thinning the lining of the uterus, making it harder for sperm to reach the egg and for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus.
