Overview

Atropine ophthalmic is a medication prescribed for the dilatation of the pupils, and has also been temporarily used to paralyze the focusing muscle of the eye. Such is usually given for the diagnostic purpose, treatment of some eye conditions, or even the prevention of complications from eye surgery.

 A drug that belongs to the class of medications known as anticholinergics or muscarinic antagonists, it works by blocking acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in charge of inducing muscle contractions.
