Overview

Baciguent is the drug that contains bacitracin, an antibiotic which is used to help eliminate or prevent infections in the case of minor cuts and lacerations, scrapes, and burns.

Being one of the most frequent remedies for localized bacterial infection localized in the skin, like Gram-positive bacteria, most probably Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes; in a form of ointment or topical cream the medicine is applied directly into the skin.

Bacitracin operates by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, eventually leading to the destruction of bacteria. It is used in many cases as part of the system used during wound care to ensure cuts, abrasions, and burns heal without getting infected.
