Overview

Cardura XL is a trade name of doxazosin, which is an extended release of an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker used to treat patients who are suffering from hypertension, among other diseases, including BPH. Unlike the immediate-release form of doxazosin, Cardura XL is a once-daily preparation that provides controlled release of the drug over a longer period, helping to maintain consistent therapeutic levels in the bloodstream throughout the day. This makes it a preferred option for patients who need continuous blood pressure or BPH management but prefer the convenience of once-daily dosing.

This product, essentially in an extended-release formula, will block alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessel wall and prostate. Blocking of such receptors leads to causing widening (vasodilation) of the blood vessels along with lowering blood pressure levels; within men experiencing BPH, the medication blocks alpha-1 receptors resulting in relaxation of muscles inside the prostate and the bladder neck that contributes in easy flow of urines.
