Overview

Doptelet (Avatrombopag) is a medication used to treat thrombocytopenia, a condition characterized by low platelet counts, in adult patients with chronic liver disease. Thrombocytopenia can occur as a result of liver diseases such as cirrhosis, where the liver is unable to produce adequate amounts of platelets, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. Doptelet is used to increase platelet counts in patients who need to undergo medical procedures, such as a liver biopsy, or who have significant risk of bleeding.

Avatrombopag is classified as a thrombopoietin receptor agonist. By stimulating the production of platelets, Doptelet helps to restore normal platelet levels, thus reducing the risk of bleeding complications in patients with low platelet counts.

This medication is available in oral tablet form and is typically prescribed when other treatment options have been inadequate or are not suitable. Doptelet works by specifically targeting the body’s platelet production mechanisms, which is why it is primarily used in chronic liver disease and certain other conditions associated with thrombocytopenia.
