Overview

Duetact is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It combines two active ingredients: pioglitazone and glimepiride. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione (TZD) that helps improve insulin sensitivity, allowing the body to use insulin more effectively. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin. Together, these ingredients work to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.

  • Duetact is used when diet, exercise, and other medications are not enough to control blood sugar levels.
  • It is not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Duetact is taken orally, usually once daily with the first main meal of the day.

This medication helps manage blood sugar levels but is not a cure for diabetes. It should be used alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise.
