Overview

Ear Wax (Otic), also known as cerumen, is a natural, waxy substance produced by the glands in the outer ear canal. This wax helps protect the ear from foreign particles, moisture, and infections, while also lubricating the ear canal to prevent dryness. Although ear wax is beneficial, it can sometimes accumulate in the ear, causing discomfort, pain, hearing loss, or even infections. In some cases, over-the-counter (OTC) ear drops or treatments are used to soften and remove excess wax.
