Overview

Lyrica, also known as pregabalin, is a medication primarily used to treat neuropathic pain, which is pain caused by nerve damage. This type of pain can arise from various conditions, including diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles), spinal cord injury, and fibromyalgia. Lyrica belongs to the class of drugs known as gabapentinoids.

It functions by binding to specific parts of nerves, reducing the release of neurotransmitters and thus decreasing the pain signals sent to the brain. This medication also has anxiolytic and anticonvulsant properties, making it effective in treating certain types of seizures and anxiety disorders.
