Overview

Carboprost is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue. It is primarily used in obstetrics and gynecology. The drug is often utilized in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage and in the medical abortion of pregnancy. As a prostaglandin, carboprost is known to stimulate uterine contractions that are helpful in controlling excessive bleeding after delivery or causing abortion. It is also employed in some forms of incomplete abortion or as a component of treatment for fetal death in utero.

Carboprost is a medication available for injection. It should be administered in a hospital setting since patients will be monitored for adverse effects such as anaphylactic reactions, gastrointestinal problems, and cardiovascular conditions. Carboprost is specifically indicated for use in controlling hemorrhagic complications and obstetric disorders that need close observation.
