Overview

Gadoteridol is the generic name for a widely used gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA). It is primarily known by its brand name, ProHance. Gadoteridol is administered intravenously (into a vein) to enhance the quality and diagnostic value of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Its main purpose is to help doctors visualize various structures and abnormalities more clearly, including:

  • Lesions (such as tumors, inflammation, or infection) in the brain, spine, and associated tissues, where the blood-brain barrier may be disrupted.
  • Lesions in other extracranial/extraspinal tissues, such as in the head and neck.
  • It can also be used for whole-body MRI, including the liver, breast, musculoskeletal system, and soft tissue pathologies.

Gadoteridol has a macrocyclic and non-ionic chemical structure, which is associated with high stability. It requires a doctor’s prescription and is administered by healthcare professionals in a hospital or imaging center.
